How to Reduce Your Ecological Footprint, continued
Rethink, continued
- Often, companies make their products in poorer countries and then
import them, because the materials and labour are cheaper. Think
about how the company behaves in these countries — does it
pay locals fairly for their products and services? Does it support
community programs in these countries?
- Think about the type of food
you buy. A diet consisting mostly of fruit, vegetables and grains
generally uses less land, energy and resources
than a diet containing a lot of meat. And buying fresh, unprocessed
food from local, small farms and organic or free-range farms can
also reduce your footprint.
